Reusing, an Ingenious and Beneficial Gesture!

First of all, what does the term reusing mean? It simply means giving an object or container a second life without major industrial transformation. In other words, the reused object is not an entirely different product.

This simple gesture reduces the use of new resources, decreases the amount of materials to be buried, and even saves money!

Reusing in Everyday Life

The reuse of products is the second favoured approach after reduction at source. The more you reuse your old goods by giving them a second life, the more you significantly reduce your environmental impact.

Some Ways to Practice Reusing in Everyday Life

  • Donating: You can give products you no longer want to charities or even to people you know.
  • Selling: If you no longer use certain products, you can sell them. You would certainly make people happy! More and more people use classified ads. Buying used items is also a form of reusing.
  • Repairing: Prolonging the life of furniture, clothes, or electronic devices prevents the production of waste and the purchase of new goods.
  • Finding other uses for the same product. For example, if you own a small stool that you no longer like, you can turn it into a small side table. You will give your object a second life!

Here are the most commonly reused items:

  • Clothes (including costumes)
  • Shoes
  • Furniture
  • Household appliances
  • Electronic devices
  • Children’s items
  • Toys and games
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Musical instruments
  • Books
  • Vehicles and automobile parts
  • Sporting goods
  • Decoration and home accessories

And the Benefits?

The practice of reusing helps preserve natural resources since it does not involve the production of new goods.

In addition, by helping to extend an object’s life, reusing delays the start of a larger transformation that requires more energy. It also creates jobs and offers less fortunate people the chance to buy items at low cost.

Finally, reusing constitutes an option for the environment as well as the disposal of goods.
