The first snowflakes have fallen in several regions in Quebec. Winter is slowly settling in and spreading out its beautiful white coat. However, winter means snowstorms, freezing rain…and snow removal season!
Did you know that snow has an impact on your waste collection? In fact, to optimize collection of your recycling, compost, and garbage, it is important to follow certain steps.
It is essential to clear the snow and ice from your bins. These simple steps allow refuse collectors to offer you a secure/safe and professional service. This does not only apply to lids. Indeed, clearing 60 cm (2 feet) around your bins is advised so as not to interfere with mechanized collection.
During a snowstorm, it is recommended that you place your bins or bags on the curb on the morning of waste collection. Also, make sure that the lids are closed. Then, place the handles and wheels so that they face your home. This position prevents things from building up on the lids or even breaking them.
If you have more than one collection in the same day, place your bins on both sides of your driveway. This way, you respect the recommended 60 cm (2 feet) clearance.
Important: All frozen or snow-covered waste bins, cans, and bags will not be collected.
