Spring is housecleaning season. This annual chore allows us to sort through damaged and unused items that are taking up space. Hazardous household waste (HHW) is also often found during spring cleaning.
Once the work has been carried out, one dilemma remains: What should be done with these materials?
It is important to ensure that you send materials to the right place.
For items that can still be used, do a good deed by bringing them to a charity to help people in need. Containers, packaging and printed matter can be placed in the recycling bin, provided they are made of paper, cardboard, metal, plastic or glass.
However, some materials should not end up in the blue bin because they can contaminate other recyclable materials. Such is the case for hazardous household waste, also known as HHW.
To permit citizens to dispose of their hazardous household waste in the best way possible, annual collections are organized in many cities and municipalities. During these collections, different materials are accepted.
