Environmental Festivals

Summer time means festival time. With festivals taking place all over Quebec, there’s no shortage of choice. But did you know that, no matter what festival you participate in, you can reduce your environmental footprint and help event organizers limit environmental impacts? To accomplish this, simply follow a few simple steps.

Transportation

Unfortunately, festival-goers are responsible for a lot of greenhouse gas emissions. Here’s what you can do to reduce them:

  • Choose public transport or active transportation (biking, walking, etc.);
  • If you are not near an urban center, try carpooling;
  • If the festival provides a shuttle service, use it to get around.

Food and Drink

Some festivals allow people to bring their own food, but this is not always the case. If you need to buy food at the festival, here’s what you can do to take care of the environment:

  • Choose organic, local and fair trade food;
  • If possible, bring your own reusable containers in order to reduce waste or choose recyclable or compostable containers;
  • Bring your reusable water bottle to limit the use of plastic.

Garbage

To ensure that no garbage is left behind, try to follow these steps:

  • Place recyclable materials, compostable materials (when possible), and garbage in the appropriate places provided;
  • Avoid printing the festival program or taking paper flyers. Check out this information online instead;
  • Before leaving a place, make sure you have all your things.

As you can see, these steps are easily applicable and will help preserve the environment.

The whole team at EBI hopes you have a great summer… and enjoy the festivals!
