Organic materials, also known as compostable or putrescible materials, are defined as “any waste that is putrefied and decomposed by microorganisms”.
For the residential sector, this designation is restricted to kitchen and garden waste, which includes grass and dead leaves. These organic materials represent 44% of all waste produced by Quebecers, which corresponds to an average of 184 kg per individual per year.
A few years ago, EBI took the initiative of introducing a three-way collection system, i.e. adding the brown bin.
